Looking at the Belgian landscape, we can't deny the popularity of skating as skate parks are poping up everywhere.
But skateboard have at least 3 wheels too many to have some real fun. Al least this is what a few Russians inventors must have thought.
And so they build a one wheeled skateboard and called it Suncycle.
You can see it in action on their website.

The fact that there are a lot of weird people roaming the planet, has been clear for a while.
But sometimes they show up unexpectedly.
This is exactly what happened a couple of days ago.
I opened my mail and saw I got a mail from the UK. What made this mail special was that it was signed LUMPS (London UniMotorcycle Pilots) and organisation I thought was long since extinct.
|
|
The LUMPS founders : Jiffler, Dad, and Gripper, started experimenting with unimotorcycles back in 1997 after seeing them in biker magazines.
Unfortunately unimotorcycle racing didn't achieve the same level of intrest this sport has enjoyed in Belgium and Holland these last couple of years. Probably because nobody wanted to drag the bloody thing behind a car or van all the time.
But unimotorcycle racing hasn't died yet ! Witness the picture of the (probably) smallest unimotorcycle racer in the world (50cc)
And if all goes according to plan, you'll see LUMPS at the Vagabonds races on the 19th of August (LOL)
If you want to see some LUMPS pictures , have a look hier.
Special thanks to Sneaky Pete of the London UniMotorcycle Pilots (thanks Pete for the videos and pictures) + additional information was send by Terry, secr. A.N.U.S. (thanks Terry for the correct information about the dates)

On one wheel ... |

More then 30 years ago, my dad tried to teach me how to ride a bicycle. He'd fixed a broomstick to my bicycle to hold me upright while I was balancing my bike.
Soon however, my dad gave up running behind the bike and he replaced the broomstick with to small wheels on either side of the bicycle. The small wheels, stayed on till I felt confident enough to ride without.
|
|
The story has nothing to do with unimotorcycles.
But 30 years on, dad and bike both have known better times, but the idea to mount small wheels on a bike seems very alive.
So if you're not confident enough to trie out unimotorcycle racing, these people may be able to overcome your initial fear : www.ononewheel.com

The electric unicycle or Eunicycle |

Technological advances are not allways driven by a possible commercial gain at the end of the developement of a product.
Dr. Trevor Blackwell just liked the challenge and designed a unicycle powerd by an electrical engine.
There is only one button on the Eunicycle and that's the on/off switch. Increasing or decreasing speed or changing direction is done by leaning one way or another.
I suppose this thing won't break any speed records, but it does look a lot more exiting than the two wheeled segway (http://www.segway.com).

Have a look at the Trevor Blackwell website :
Trevor Blackwell's Eunicycle. You will find a detailed list of parts and instructions to build an Eunicycle yourself.

If you've read our site, you will have noticed that the international rules state that there is a 'Rocket Class' ( see the international rules).
If you have trouble imagining what a Rocket Class unimotorcycle looks like... then have a good look at these pictures :
